From the ferry at Aursneset drive 21.9 km towards Stranda on road 60. Take left towards Fjellsetra, and continue for 4.4 km. Find parking along the road, 300 metres after you have crossed the river Revsdalselva.
Start skiing on the north side of the road, and head north/north-west for 500 metres. Then turn right and ski in a north-east direction, staying left of a small hill. When you get above the trees turn directly north, heading for the ridge. When you have gained more height, make sure you stay right (east) of this ridge, and head for the wide south slope of Auskjeret. Zigzagging up this slope will take you to "Latmannshøgda" (lazy man's plateau) at 900 metres. From here it is best to continue on the western side of the mountain; aim for a point between the summit and a small height further to the west, and then gradually move right towards the summit.
There are two cairns at the summit plateau; the biggest is located at the highest point. In the eastern wall of this cairn one can find a book for registration.
For the descent one will have to evaluate ones skiing ability, but a route that follows the ascent route is safe, and offers no difficulties.
I was spending a week-end at my cabin by Nysetervatnet together with my wife and the two youngest boys. They wanted to go to the ski slopes at the Sunnmørsalpane ski-resort, so I decided to pay a visit to Auskjeret. I hadn't been to Auskjeret at all the previous winter, which was a major change to the previous years, where I even at one occasion had two trips to Auskjeret in one day, so it was time for a "reunion".
I t was a fine day for skiing, with no wind and powder. The temperature at start was -1ºC. Unfortunately the sky was clouded, and at times there was thick fog around the mountains.
Two skiers had started earlier than me so I didn't have to break tracks. These two I caught up with at Latmannshøgda, where they had decided to call it a day. From here to the top I had to break my own tracks; no problem in the light snow. As I got close to the summit thick fog started to drift in around Auskjeret, and when I got to the top the visibility was down to < 100 metres. I waited at the summit for a while, in hope of getting decent conditions for taking photos, but after 15 min. or so I decided to head back down. The first 50 vertical metres was quit icy, but below this it was excellent skiing conditions. At Latmannshøgda I met two other skiers, heading for the top. After a quick chat I realised that they would have sun and good visibility when they got to the top. Three other skiers were on their way up to Latmannshøgda.
I was back at the car 2:15 hours after I set out at 11:20. Drove back to the ski slopes, picked up my youngest son, and skied back to the cabin.
