From the ferry at Aursneset drive 21.9km towards Stranda on road 60. Take left towards Fjellsetra and continue for 6.0km to the north-east end of lake Nysetervatnet. Then turn right towards Fausa and drive another 3.9km through the valley Fausadalen to the end of the road. Park by the last house.

Start walking by crossing the concrete bridge that crosses the small river. Continue up the first uphill and turn right (south-west). Then continue along this forest road for approximately 2.8km to where the forest road ends. From here aim directly for the saddle right (west) of Skurdahornet. After having crossed the flat and boggy area you get to a wet uphill. It is best to stay on the left hand side of the small stream coming down this hill. After having ascended this hill you see the lake at 630 metres. Turn left before you get to the lake and find the best route up the north side of Skurdahornet. There is no path here, and a fair bit of heather, so the ascent is relatively exhausting. When you get close to the summit you turn right (south) and aim for the summit, which is marked by a signpost.

The descent is best done via the ascent route.

12. October 2007

This was a family trip during the autumn holiday week. We were spending the week at our cabin at Fjellsetra, an ideal location for fine hikes.

This Friday six of us (parents-in-law, Njål, Sigurd, Elisabeth and me) decided to explore the forest road going south from the end of Fausadalen valley. This would also give me the opportunity to explore the route to Skurdahornet from this side (had previously been to Skurdahornet from the Stranda side).

We drove from the cabin and started walking at 11:50. It was a fantastic autumn day, with crisp air and a blue sky. The temperature was 2°C, and there was no wind.

We all walked together to the end of the forest road. From here only Sigurd and me continued, aiming for Skurdahornet. A little above the lake at 630 metres Sigurd, for some reason, decided to call it a day and head back to the rest of the team who were waiting at the end of the forest road. Maybe it was the hot dogs that suddenly tempted more than a new mountain in the bag? I therefore continued on my own to the summit, signed the registration book and rushed back down to the others. I managed to get my hands on the last hot dog before we all headed back down to the cars.
